Who We Are
Troop Overview
Troop 140 has been in existence for over 67 years and we are still going strong. Troop 140 is for youth between the ages of 11 and 18 and we are sponsored by the Fairview School PTO, in Middletown, NJ.
We are one of the first in Monmouth Council to be actively involved in the scout sponsored Stem Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
Building Character
The Scouting Program is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. Scouting provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of citizenship, and develops personal fitness. The Program has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. Helping youth is the key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
Leadership Skills
The scouts have fun and learn leadership running meetings and events. They plan and organize rafting trips, camping trips to scout camps, state and local parks and historic locations. There is also a weeklong summer camp that we participate in at Forestburg Scout Reservation in upstate New York. The troop is run by our scouts with a lot of support from dedicated adults who volunteer to train, guide and council the scouts.
Outdoor Adventure
We visit historic locations like Gettysburg, Valley Forge, USS Massachusetts, USS New Jersey, Washington D.C., National Parks, other regional Scout Camps, West Point and Annapolis. We go on monthly day trips, biking adventures, overnight weekend camping trips, whitewater rafting trips, attend regional Camporees and Jamborees and a weeklong summer camp program at the council’s Forestburg Scout Reservation. Many of our Scouts and Scouters have done High Adventure Treks to Philmont, attended National Jamboree and been councilors at FSR.
